Peter Witts is a Certified Public Accountant with over twenty years of Government Contract Accounting experience. His background includes tenure with the Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA), Northeastern Regional Office, until leaving in September 2000 to found his own public accounting firm.
While with the DCAA, Peter was involved in a wide variety of audit related activities for large aerospace contractors as well as small business contractors in the Northeastern region of the DCAA.
Mr. Witts has designed and implemented government contract accounting systems, prepared incurred cost submissions, developed forward pricing rates, conducted NIH A-133 Program Audits and supported several DCAA audits for clients.

Technical Program Specialist for the following major program areas in the Northeast region (MA, NH, ME, RI, CT, NY, MI and Europe): Cost Accounting Standards, Financial Capability Audits, Health Care Finance Administration audits, Compensation and Direct Billing initiatives and responsible for providing audit guidance to DCAA field auditors throughout the Northeastern region.
Member of an audit team completing a highly visible audit of a Michigan anthrax vaccine producer’s extraordinary financial relief of contract terms claim. The Undersecretary of Defense and the Director of DCAA commended the audit team on the high quality of the audit in a week’s turnaround time.
Leader of the Northeastern Regional team in the development of a new Cost Accounting Standard audit programs for CAS 410 and CAS 420.
Developed a two-day training seminar for Northeastern Region auditors in the audit of contractor’s financial capability.
Conducted presentations on the Cumulative Allowable Cost Worksheets and the new closeout procedures for contracts to Contractor personnel and DCAA auditors.
Focal point for the audit of Peer Review Organizations (PRO) audits for the Health Care Financing Administration in the Northeastern region.

Mike Gitlen, CPA
Michael Gitlen is a Certified Public Accountant with over twenty five years of Federal Contracting experience. He has held positions of increasing responsibility at United Technologies Corporation, Kaman Aerospace, FARaero, and Bartlett Services, Inc.
Mr. Gitlen has designed and implemented government contract accounting systems, developed forward pricing rates and has prepared Incurred Cost Submissions and Government proposals both on a FAR Part 15 Cost basis and a FAR Part 12 Commercial Item basis.
Additionally Mr. Gitlen prepared a DFAR External Restructuring proposal, resulting from a merger, for a “Fortune 100 Company”, exceeding $500M. He has lectured locally on Federal Acquisition matters at the annual Boston NCMA conference at Bentley College and nationally at the DoD National SBIR Conference in Washington DC.
Mr. Gitlen served as the NDIA (National Defense Industrial Association) New England chapter President for the ten year period 2002 – 2012 which successfully hosted the 2006 & 2009 NDIA National Small Business Conference in Newport, R.I.
Bruce has been working in the field of Taxation for over Thirty-Five Years. Since January of 1982.
With the Firm Bruce is the Tax Manager and meets with Tax Clients. Staying attuned with their unique circumstances keeping a proactive approach to their needs.
Bruce is also involved with Tax Research and Tax Planning, staying abreast of all Tax Law changes and Mentor Younger Staff.

Judy has diverse background in public accounting. She works with both government contractors and business owners. She prepares individual and business tax returns. She also involves with DOE Audit, Financial Statements Audits and prepares Incurred Cost Submission Model.
Nikki graduated from the University of Massachusetts Lowell, in 2016, receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing and dual focus in Management. From graduation she went right into the marketing world dipping her toes into the fast paced world of start-ups. Mainly focusing on UX/UI design work for websites, Analytics, and everything Social Media, she found her real passion. Wanting to fully start her career in a small company, she came to Peter Witts CPA in December of 2016. Since bringing her knowledge and experience to the firm, Nikki focuses on everything from handling our website, social media, analytics, to marketing campaigns.
Sandra DeSousa has a BS in Accounting and has over 9 years working in the public sector. She has worked at Peter Witts since 2014. Mrs. DeSousa handles all aspects of the accounting cycle for government as well as business clients. In addition, she prepares personal and business tax returns.
Susan Smith has been working as a Bookkeeper at Peter Witts CPA since June of 2013.
Susan is a fast-paced, hard working individual who will always have the work done in a timely and accurate manner.
